Bringing Your Own Phone and Using eSIM

Check the exact device
A model name alone cannot confirm compatibility. Model variants, lock status and the carrier’s device check matter. T-Mobile’s BYOD guidance, for example, directs customers to check their device identifier. Submit that identifier only to the carrier’s official checker.
Treat eSIM as a separate check
A listed eSIM feature describes an available activation option, not a promise that every phone supports it. Confirm support for the exact model, plan and account before choosing an eSIM or ordering a physical SIM.
Plan the number transfer
The FCC advises starting a number transfer with the new provider and keeping the old service active until the transfer is arranged. Check transfer eligibility and the required account information first. Keep transfer PINs private and confirm any outstanding device balance separately.
